PTKR and IBECPT Standard CERTIFICATION IN PLAY THERAPY and FILIAL PLAY for KOREA


Play Therapy Standards are ratified by the IBECPT. PTI administers the standards on behalf of the IBECPT, monitors the appropriateness and effectiveness and proposes changes when it is felt necessary. PTKR administers the standards in Korea on behalf of PTI and the IBECPT.

In order to become a Certified Play Therapist it is necessary to :
 Successfully complete a PTI/PTKR accredited post graduate training course at Diploma level including a minimum of 200 hours clinically supervised work with children and/or adolescents.
 Be a current member of PTI or an affiliated organization such as PTKR, PTUK etc, observing an appropriate ethical framework
 Have clinical supervision of at least 1.5 hours every month of practice
 Carry out clinical governance procedures
 Undertake a minimum of 35 hours of qualifying continuous professional development (CPD) activities each year.

To become an Accredited Play Therapist it is necessary to have completed a minimum of 450 hours clinically supervised work with children and to fulfil the obligations of a Certified Play Therapist.

In order to become a Certified Practitioner of Therapeutic Play it is necessary to :

 Successfully complete a PTI/PTKR accredited post graduate training course at Certificate level including a minimum of 100 hours clinically supervised work with children
 Be a current member of PTI or an affiliated organization such as PTKR, PTUK etc, observing an appropriate ethical framework
 Have clinical supervision of at least 1.5 hours every month of practice
 Carry out clinical governance procedures

Undertake a minimum of 35 hours of qualifying continuous professional development (CPD) activities each year.

In order to become a Certified Filial Play Coach/Mentor it is necessary to :
 Successfully complete a PTI/PTKR accredited post graduate Filial Play Coaching training course including a minimum of 100 hours clinically supervised work with parents and children
 Be a current member of PTI or an affiliated organization such as PTKR, PTUK etc, observing an appropriate ethical framework
 Have clinical supervision of at least 1.5 hours every month of practice
 Carry out clinical governance procedures
Undertake a minimum of 35 hours of qualifying continuous professional development (CPD) activities each year.

CPD

Continuous Professional Development is regarded as essential for good quality practice by certified and accredited PTI Practitioner Members. The requirement is to undertake at least 35 hours of allowable activities each year to retain membership. These hours may be averaged over a three year period. Planning for CPD and play therapy training should be based upon PTI’s competency framework.

The activities must be selected from 3 or more categories, at least one of which must be from categories 1-3. [N.B. The list of examples is not exhaustive].

Category Conditions and Examples Max Hours Allowed per year for CPD
Category 1

Short Courses on Professional Issues 		Courses undertaken in areas of special interest or concern which are relevant to play therapy practice e.g. sandplay story-telling working with abuse, working with trauma, bereavement, brief therapy……. These may be offered by accredited training providers or "in house" and will normally be at stage 4 of the PTI Training Model. The course content must include competencies listed in the Profession Structure Model competency framework. 20
Category 2

Seminars and Conferences 		Seminars / conferences on topics relevant to play therapy practice, which may be organised locally, nationally or internationally, by individuals or organisations, recognised by PTI or its affiliates. The programme content must include competencies listed in the Profession Structure Model competency framework. 20
Category 3

Study for Further Qualifications 		Further award bearing training in relevant professional field e.g. certificate or diploma in play therapy or creative arts supervision, or MA in Practised Based Play Therapy. The course content must include competencies listed in the Profession Structure Model competency framework. 20
Category 4

Assisting the Development of Others 		Designing and facilitating workshops; offering a training session or giving a talk at a conference; writing e.g. articles, book reviews, books (relevant to professional practice); published research; initiatives taken alone and in consultation with peers to create and develop new ideas relevant to therapeutic play, play therapy or creative arts therapies and making these available to others 20
Category 5

Working Party / Advisory Board and other Meetings 		Play therapy related meeting work, local or national consultation with colleagues leading to initiatives such as establishing local groups. Membership of committees where play therapy may be represented to others. Contribution to PTI standards. 10
Category 6

Personal Development 		Participation in groups; personal therapy; learning new skills; Acquiring knowledge and new insights from reading, films, plays 10
